Wanting to put the fun in fundraiser, the board and staff tried several versions of a dinner, auction, and theme. It began with an event called “Come Fly with Me” which was held at one of the hangars of the Anderson Municipal airport where people dressed in flight related themes. It then changed into an event called “Evening with the Masters” where people dressed as images from works of art brought famous paintings to life. Finally, it evolved into our current event, called “Night at the Races” which gives a nod to the horse racing partnerships important to our community.
Throughout the evening people may sponsor a horse and choose a “jockey” to “race” that horse on a track inside The Anderson Center for the Arts’ building. The casual affair includes an hors d’oeuvres dinner, silent and verbal auctions, and lots of fun. Truly an event people look forward to attending each year!

Ice Cream Social
Many years ago, The Anderson Center for the Arts (called then the Anderson Fine Arts Center) wanted to offer an event in the summertime which would bring people in the community together, raise funds for operating expenses, and speak of our beginnings. As a result, the ice cream social was developed. This fundraiser later grew into a major fall arts festival.
Going back to the simplicity of the very first year, when our Women’s League baked homemade cakes and pies and our board members dipped ice cream, the new version of the Ice Cream Social has become an anticipated lunchtime option for those working and living downtown. People come out to enjoy each other, support the center, and step back to a simpler time for a few hours.
